The Song of Joy

Journey of Faith

Exodus is about a war between the gods of Egypt and the Lord.

God is working out his plan and accomplishing his purpose.

Exodus 14:30-31
That day the Lord saved Israel from the power of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 When Israel sawthe great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and believed in him and in his servant Moses.

The Song of Joy

It is a song of joy in response to God’s deliverance and salvation.

Exodus 15:1-21
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord. They said:
I will sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted; he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea. 2 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. 3 The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name.
11 Lord, who is like you among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?12 You stretched out your right hand, and the earth swallowed them.13 With your faithful love, you will lead the people you have redeemed; you will guide them to your holy dwelling with your strength.
18 The Lord will reign forever and ever!

They are singing to the Lord, because they recognize that he is the one who has done the work and deserves the praise.

1) The “journey of faith” begins with recognizing who God is and what he has done.

Isaiah 53:5-6
But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds. 6 We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for the iniquity of us all.

Have you begun the “journey of faith” by believing in and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior?

John 1:12
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

2) On the “journey of faith” we will understand who God is to us, personally.

Exodus 15:2-3
The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The Lord is warrior; the Lord is his name.

The Lord is:

a.  My strength – he is the sustainer and provider of our lives.
b.  My song – he is the joy of our hearts.
c.  My salvation – he is the provider of our salvation and redemption.
d.  My God – he is the Almighty, Holy God.
e.  My father’s God – he is faithful to keep his promises and fulfill his covenant.
f.  A warrior – he is the one who fights for us.
g. The Lord/Yahweh – he is the self-existent, eternal and supreme King.

Exodus 15:11
Lord, who is like you among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?

3) On the “journey of faith” we will learn that nobody and nothing compares to our God.

Anything we use to replace God with is an idol.

Every ‘idol’ will leave us unfulfilled and longing for more.

Where are you on the journey of faith?

Prayer:  Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner and I need help. I believe in who you are and what you have done for me. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and rose from the grave conquering Satan, sin and death.  Forgive me of my sins and my idols. I repent of living life my way and rejecting you. Now I want to receive salvation through Jesus, my Savior.
