The Victorious God
Remember what I did for you, and teach your children.
God has a plan for his people – so we can trust him and follow him.
Exodus 14:13-14
“Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet.”
What to do while you wait:
- Don’t live in fear
- Stand firm
- Look to the Lord because he is at work
The Lord’s Final Victory against Egypt
Exodus 14:15-18
The Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to break camp. 16 As for you, lift up your staff, stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 As for me, I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I receive glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
God is working out his plan and accomplishing his purpose.
God is sovereignly and purposefully at work in the world.
Exodus 14:17-18
As for me, I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I receive glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.
The purpose of God in Exodus is that all peoples will know him and that he will be glorified.
1. THE LORD DEFENDS HIS PEOPLE
Exodus 14:19-20
Then the angel of God, who was going in front of the Israelite forces, moved and went behind them. The pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and stood behind them. 20 It came between the Egyptian and Israelite forces. There was cloud and darkness, it lit up the night, and neither group came near the other all night long.
The Lord defends and protects you.
Psalm 18:1-3
I love you, Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation,my stronghold. 3 I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.
2. THE LORD PROVIDES A WAY FOR HIS PEOPLE
Exodus 14:21-22
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea back with a powerful east wind all that night and turned the sea into dry land. So the waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left.
The Lord provides a way for you to follow and obey him.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.
3. THE LORD SEES HIS PEOPLE AND ALL THINGS
Exodus 14:24
During the morning watch, the Lord looked down at the Egyptian forces from the pillar of fire and cloud, and threw the Egyptian forces into confusion.
The Lord sees you.
2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him.
1 Peter 3:12
…because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer.
4. THE LORD FIGHTS FOR HIS PEOPLE
Exodus 14:25-29
He caused their chariot wheels to swerve and made them drive with difficulty. “Let’s get away from Israel,” the Egyptians said, “because the Lord is fighting for them against Egypt!” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the water may come back on the Egyptians, on their chariots and horsemen.” So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea returned to its normal depth. While the Egyptians were trying to escape from it, the Lord threw them into the sea… Not even one of them survived. But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left.
The Lord fights for you and conquers your enemy.
Jesus rose from the dead conquering Satan, sin, and death.
2 Timothy 1:10
This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
1 Corinthians 15:54b-57
Death has been swallowed up in victory. 55 Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
5. THE LORD SAVES HIS PEOPLE
Exodus 14:30-31
That day the Lord saved Israel from the power of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 When Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and believed in him and in his servant Moses.
It is in and through Jesus Christ that you can be saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, 5 made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!
Titus 3:4-7
But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared, 5 he saved us—not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy—through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. 6 He poured out his Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.
John 10:9-10
I am the gate. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
Will you enter into “life” through Jesus Christ?
Exodus 14:31
When Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and believed in him and in his servant Moses.
Will you fear the Lord?
Will you believe in the Lord?
Will you believe in his Servant, Jesus Christ?
Prayer: Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner and I need help. I need your victory and your salvation. I believe in you and your love for me. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and rose from the grave conquering Satan, sin and death. Forgive me of my sins. I repent of living life my way and rejecting you. Now I want to receive salvation and enter life through Jesus, my Savior.
