Seeking Him Leads to Worship

More: Seeking Jesus

Psalm 63:1
God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.

We can diligently seek Jesus through the Word.
We can diligently seek Jesus through prayer and fasting.
We can diligently seek Jesus through serving like him.
We can diligently seek Jesus through giving like him.
We can diligently seek Jesus through thanksgiving and gratitude.

Louie Giglio: Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for who He is, and what He has done; expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live.

Isaiah 6:1-8
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, and the hem of his robe filled the temple. 2 Seraphim were standing above him; they each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 And one called to another:

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Armies; his glory fills the whole earth.

4 The foundations of the doorways shook at the sound of their voices, and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 Then I said:

Woe is me for I am ruinedbecause I am a man of unclean lipsand live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Armies.

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7 He touched my mouth with it and said:

Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removedand your sin is atoned for.

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking:

Who will I send?Who will go for us?

I said:

Here I am. Send me.

We Worship Through Praise and Adoration.

Revelation 15:3-4
They sang the song of God’s servant Moses and the song of the Lamb:

Great and awe-inspiring are your works, Lord God, the Almighty; just and true are your ways,King of the nations. 4 Lord, who will not fear and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship before you because your righteous acts have been revealed.

We praise and adore God for who he is and what he has done.

Voddie Bauchman: Our worship is not a response to how Jesus makes us feel. Our worship is a response to Jesus’ worth regardless of how we feel.

SERMON (Part 2)

We Worship Through Confession of our Sin.

Isaiah 6:5
Then I said:

Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lipsand live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Armies.

Romans 7:18-24
For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it. 19 For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, I am no longer the one that does it, but it is the sin that lives in me. 21 So I discover this law: When I want to do what is good, evil is present with me. 22 For in my inner self I delight in God’s law, 23 but I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

The closer we get to the Lord the more we recognize our sinfulness.

Matthew 6:12
Forgive us our debts…

1 John 1:8-9
If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confession of sin is for us and our heart.

LORD’S SUPPER

1 Corinthians 11:28
Let a person examine himself; in this way let him eat the bread and drink from the cup.

SERMON (Part 3)

We Worship Through Celebration of What We Have in Him.

Isaiah 6:6-8
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7 He touched my mouth with it and said:

Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removedand your sin is atoned for.

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking:

Who will I send? Who will go for us?

I said:

Here I am. Send me.

We celebrate because in Christ we have forgiveness, atonement, and salvation.

Romans 7:24-25
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

1 John 2:1-2
My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ the righteous one. 2 He himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.

We celebrate because in Christ we have calling, mission, and purpose.

Matthew 28:19-20
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
